Christmas Book Review! ~ Christmas Travelers, by Wally White

I was honored to be contacted by Wally to do a review of his new book, Christmas Travelers. With the Holidays quickly approaching, this book is the great way to get into the holiday spirit and spend the day cuddled up with a cup of hot apple cider and a great story. This is a book I could not put down until I read it cover to cover!  Wally’s background in the movie industry shows in his writing style, as I was reading this book, I felt like I was watching a movie rather than reading a book. His style of writing is perfectly descriptive to really engulf your mind in the story.

“Wally White is a screenwriter, actor and singer living in Las Angeles, CA. Growing up in the small town of Eden, NC, Christmas was one of his favorite times of the year. It brought along with it traditions and gatherings with family and friends. It was a festive time filled with love, laughter, full day shopping trips, and lots of homemade southern cooking. CHRISTMAS TRAVELERS marks his debut as an author.”

To put the icing on top of this already delicious cake;  Della Reese, who plays Tess on "Touched by an Angel," wrote the Foreward of Christmas Travelers and is also the inspiration of one of the main characters.

“The first Christmas started with travelers stopping short of their intended destination. The same can be said about this story.
When six strangers meet on a flight from Phoenix to Newark on December 24, they have little in common – a young , expectant couple; an elderly lady; a single father and his daughter; and a businesswoman. They’re all headed to different places for different reasons, but before Christmas Eve turns to Christmas Day, all their plans go awry.”
When they finally stop trying to make the holiday what they think it should be and accept this one what it is, these travelers share and experience that will define what Christmas means to them for the rest of their lives.”

The anticipation of the six travelers journey as it develops and their paths intertwine, was wonderful. This story is a sweet lesson we all tend to forget during the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. It’s a reminder of what the true meaning of Christmas is. This festive book took me on a journey myself as I realized, through Wally’s words of wisdom, that Christmas does not have to be the exact same each year to still be the magical Christmas we all know and love. This lesson came to me at the perfect time in my life as I was feeling the holidays blues knowing that this year will be the first year my family will not all be together for the holidays. It was a great read to bring me out of my blues and get me excited for the most wonderful time of the year. I highly recommend this easy read and guarantee that once you begin reading it, it will captivate you and you too will not be able to put it down!

I thank Wally White for his wonderful Christmas book and hope that he will have many more to come.

This book is a must have for anyone during the Holidays and would make a wonderful Christmas gift to holiday enthusiasts and scrooges alike. You may find his book on Amazon in paperback and on kindle by following this link: http://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Travelers-Wally-White/dp/0615549608/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379306873&sr=8-1&keywords=christmas+travelers or for anyone close to, or travelling though, Santa Claus, Indiana, it is also being sold at the Santa Claus Christmas store.

Continued....Autumn Home Decor for Under $20!

Happy Halloween everyone!!!

I thought today would be a good day to post the second part of my autumn decor for under $20, so here we go!

If you remember from my last post, I purchased the fall leaves garland from dollar tree and used some of them along my TV stand. I also got a steal on some battery operated timer candles from Kohl's and used one next to the TV with a cute little sparkly pumpkin next to it. I also found some gold Eucalyptus sprigs from dollar tree and hung them on the wall in a pottery wall vase. So pretty!

With the other half of my $20 bargin finds, I decorated the top of my desk hutch....

While I was digging through my holiday box, I found this adorable little tin pumpkin that I picked up at a garage sale last year. It was in a goodie box, so Im not sure how much I paid, but it was practically free. I popped one of the timer candles inside and he illuminates his smiling face for me everyday! Love it!

I placed my last two timer candles on the autumn leaf garland and the remainder of the gold Eucalptus mixed in the tie the whole room together.

Finally, I dug out my Yankee candle from last year and plugged in my rock salt lamp for the added ambience and pumpkin spice autumn scent that my battery operated candles cant provide.

So blissfully soothing and spooky at the same time ;-)

I hope you are all having a great Halloween! What are your plans for the day? Passing out candy to the trick or treaters, costume party, spooky movie night? I had a nice outing with my Mother and I'm spending the rest of my night cozied up in front of Ghost Adventures and other other Halloween themed shows.

Booooooohahaha !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Autumn Home Decor for Under $20!

I know, I know, I'm late! I am sorry for the delay, usually I try to have my blog up and running again by October 1st, but I have been so busy I haven't had a moment to stop and sit down at the computer.

Anyway, I just wanted to take a minute to show a few pics of my fall decor. This year, I really wanted to do a little autumn decorating. Usually I just buy a couple pumpkins, but this autumn I was on a mission to add some fall festivities for under $20!
My first stop was the dollar store. The dollar store is a great go to for your basic decorations like florals, vases, garland, ect. These items will give a fuller more complete background to your nicer decorative candles, glitter pumpkins, ect.

I was thrilled with the selection I found at my local Dollar Tree! I ended up with
  • 4 autumn leaf garlands
  • 1 Sunflower garland
  • A bundle of gold painted Eucalyptus
These garlands really go a long way! I bought five of them with the plans of doubling them up to give them a fuller effect, but they would look great on their own too! The gold/champagne painted Eucalyptus smells amazing and is a lot of bang for your buck!

My next stop was Kohls. I have always wanted battery operated candles with a timer so they would light my home when I was away and add a calming ambiance without having the light them or turn them on every day. These are great if you want candles in a part of your home that is hard to reach because you just turn them on timer mode and they do the rest for you!
These white pillar candles were originally $39.99. They were on 50% off sale for $19.99, I had a coupon for 20% off making them $15.99, then I used Kohls cash which took another $10.00 off. I finally ended up paying $5.99 for this set of four candles!!! I was so excited!

With my candles and florals in hand, my next stop was Walmart. At Walmart I found an adorable little glitter pumpkin for $2.00

I used the garland to run along my tv stand, added a timer candle on one side and a sparkly little pumpkin next to it. I also did the same thing along the top of my hutch desk and used the other three candles there.
I'll have pictures of that in my next blog post.

I used some of the Eucalyptus sprigs in a little pottery vase I have hanging on my wall. (Christmas gift from my Mother, aww!)

I used the remainder of the Eucalyptus mixed in with my garland ontop of my desk. Check out my next blog posts for pictures of that!

Not bad for $20.00! And that is only half of it!

Do you buy any decorations at the dollar stores?

Thanks for your patience with me, I have some great bloggy ideas for the Christmas season, just need to free up some more time ;)

Just a Quick Pic...

Well..its official, Autumn is sneaking up on us, and not a moment too soon! (Bloggers rejoice!)

I've have started to notice the leaves changing colors these past few days and today we got a pretty good hail storm, the first one of the season.

Although my doggie wasn't too happy about it (she turns into an 85lb baby and hides under the bed when it gets loud outside) I, however loved it! Just as quickly as it came, it melted away so Im glad I snapped a shot.
Just thought I share a quick pic.

Moments after the storm passed I noticed a mama and baby (fawn) deer passing through and was able to capture a great pic of the little one nursing!

What a great day :)

Have you seen any signs of autumn yet?

Also, I have begun working on my fall decor so check back for that! I might wait until October to post them because it is a work in progress as I'm slowing gathering things still. ;-)

I'm so excited for the beautiful autumn colors that I had to do a fall blog makeover!

Merry Christmas Eve!

Merry Christmas Eve everyone. I hope you all had a successful shopping week!

It looks like were going to have a white Christmas here in Colorado, which I am super excited about! But it's a little bitter sweet because my honey may have to go plowing tomorrow if it snows. Fingered cross he wont have to go but we'll still get snow.

I'm looking forward to Christmas breakfast, I think that's my favorite part of the whole day. We splurge on bagel and lox, fruit, chocolate covered everything, and Champagne or mimosas. Then we snack on it all day long until dinner. This year for dinner my honey brought some deer meat home that a friend gave him so were cooking that up as well as a seafood pasta for those of us who don't eat any meat besides fish (me).  Were having our neighbors over and the whole family together, so it should be fun!

Do you have any Christmas day traditions that your looking forward to?
Whats on your menu for Christmas dinner?

Don't forget to vote on the Christmas tree contest, today will be the last day. I switched the voting settings to hidden so the results wont show after you vote that way tomorrow the winners will be a delightful surprise! I will switch it back on tomorrow so everyone can check it out to see how many votes they got!

Stay safe, happy, and warm!

Giveaway! Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Gift of Christmas (Ends 12/22)

Chicken Soup for the Soul contributor Jennie Ivey wouldn’t hear of it when her mother proposed skipping Christmas dinner since her driveway was covered in black ice. Instead, Jennie, her husband and their son James headed over to Grandma’s to pick her up, but weren’t quite sure how they’d get her down the driveway to the car. James had a great idea—using a laundry basket as a makeshift sled, they slid Grandma down the driveway with James wearing his baseball cleats to use as brakes.

The Chicken Soup for the Soul books are filled with uplifting, funny and heart warming true stories that make the books an easy, enjoyable read. I've been reading Chicken Soup for the Soul since I was a child. Starting out with Chicken Soup for the Soul for Kids, then for Teens, and various editions after that, that is why I am super excited to have the opportunity to giveaway two copies of Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Gift of Christmas!

Just leave a comment on this post and you will be entered for your chance to win one of  the two books. The last day to enter will be on Dec 22, so comment now!

Have a great Christmas week everyone and don't forget to vote for your favorite Christmas tree while you're here!
