"Weekly Cheer" (Video of the Week)

I think Mariah Carey has a beautiful, very real voice. Her song, "All I Want for Christmas" is one of my all time favorite Holiday songs. The up beat tone, along with positive lyrics of love, are exactly what I think of when I think of the Christmas spirit.
This ought to get you amped up for your Christmas shopping! :)

Hey Everyone, I made the Christmas Tree Contest easier to enter!
I realized it was too much, so I cut back and made it simpler (that's why my video gets a little choppy in the middle). Oh well ;-)

So look through your pictures and find a picture of your tree to enter with. If you don't have one just snap one!

I hope you all enter! It will be a lot of fun!  I'm so excited to see all of your trees :-)

20 Things Im Thankful For

Thanksgiving is tomorrow,  it is a day to reflect on what we have in our lives that makes them worth living. Its a day of appreciation for the many blessings that we sometimes become accustom to and take for granted. In honor of Thanksgiving, here is what I am thankful for.

The things that I am the most thankful for in my life are the people who have always supported and loved me: My Mom, Dad, Sister, Boyfriend, my entire family. I cannot imagine my life without these people in it. They keep me going everyday and I grow closer and love them even more with every passing day. My doggies are also a part of my family: Shady, Ginger, and Cookie. I am thankful for their waggy tails when I walk in the door and their slobbery kisses that always make me smile.  I’m thankful for the home we live in; I couldn’t imagine a better place to grow up and everyday when I wake up in my home in the mountains and look out the window at the towering trees and majestic elk, I feel a sense of appreciation. I’m very grateful we all have our health, we may not be perfect, but it could always be so much worse. Finally I am thankful for the life that we live; we are very blessed to be surrounded with good people, a roof over our heads and cute animals at our feet. For all of these things I will forever be thankful. My life would be an empty void without them.

But, I think when we are asked “what are you thankful for”, we think of those things first, and the question has the exact same answer for everyone. Just like my answer, everyone is thankful for life, family, home, health, love; so I want to get more specific this year. Assume that we are all thankful for those things, now ask yourself that question again, what are you thankful for? With the obvious answers aside you will begin to think about the little things in your daily life that make your day a little brighter.

Here is my list of 20 little things in life that I am thankful for…
  1. The smell of the air just after it rains. It’s fresh and crisp with a light scent of pine.

  1. The feel of soft fabric. Nothing beats cuddling up in something soft on a cold winter’s day.

1. The beauty of a flower. The most beautiful thing in the world is nature, and flowers just do something to my brain that brings me joy just at the sight of them.

2. The heavenly scent of a fresh flower. Not all of them have a scent, but when they do, it’s the closest thing to heaven on earth.

3. The sunrise and sunset, the sky turns magical these times of the day. All of my favorite colors combine into a dance of vibrancy in the sky.

4. The feel of a sandy beach between your toes. I love living in the mountains, but vacation at the beach is a delight on so many levels. The feel of the sand, the sound of the waves, the scent of salt water, it’s amazing.

5. Christmas music as I walk through a mall. It’s my favorite time of the year and no matter how much shopping I have to do, I enjoy every minute of it.

6. Waking up on Christmas morning to find my amazing mother in the kitchen surrounded by tasty food and a fireplace crackling away next to a lit up tree. It’s like a scene from a movie.
7. A warm cup of Starbucks coffee on my way to school. Sometimes the anticipation of getting my red, snowflake covered, cup of Chai tea latte, is the only thing to get me out of bed and off to school.

8. Twilight the movies and books. Discovering Twilight made me discover my love for reading. But it also gave me an escape and a new obsession. If you haven’t read the books, it’s hard to understand the fascination so many have with the series.

9. My favorite TV shows that I can always count on. Most of them are embarrassing, but I’ll tell you anyway. Family Guy, American Dad, The Vampire Diaries, and many more. Hey, I warned you it was bad! ;-)

10. A hot bubble bath, baths are an escape for me. I feel like I can think so clearly when I’m relaxing in the tub with no distractions, I’m able to figure out many of my problems and get lost in time.
11. My blog and the blogging community. I’ve found a new hobby that is all consuming. I’m either thinking about what to blog about, working on a blog, reading other peoples blogs, or wandering up and down the aisles of the craft store. It’s so nice to have something to focus my energy into that I enjoy.

12. The changing of the seasons. Living in Colorado the different seasons are very pronounced. I love it! We have warm sunning summer days, then cool and crisp autumn days, then a winter wonderland, then cheerful fresh spring days. I love seeing the transformation take place.

13. The ambiance and warmth of a flickering candle. What a difference it makes!

14. The telephone…. Hold on, it’s not what you think! I am thankful for the phone because it allows me to keep in touch with family living in other parts of the world. I know whenever I feel lonely or miss someone; someone who loves me is just a phone call away.
15. Clothing that makes you feel good about yourself. Sometimes when my confidence is low, all it takes is a cute outfit, some make up, my favorite purse and I automatically feel uplifted and better about myself. It’s nice to have cute items that can do that.

16. Plants, animals and nature everywhere. I know I kindof already said this, but I just can’t imagine being happy without nature in my life.

17. The silence of a snow fall; I don’t know if you have noticed this before, but when it is snowing everything goes silent. You have to get out of the city to experience this, but it is incredible. The only sound you hear is your own breathing.

18. Last but certainly not least is the sound of laughter and the beauty of a smiling face. When people are happy it is contagious.

What is something you are thankful for? Its the simple things in life.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, I hope all of you have a wonderful feast surrounded by family and pie!

I do not own any of the pictures on this 11/ 24/2011 blog post. I found them on Google.

How to Serve Your Tastey Turkey

We spend all day cooking, basting, and stuffing them, finally all our hard work pays off with a beautiful golden brown turkey. But how do you serve your tasty turkey?

Carving the Thanksgiving turkey is always a challenge in my home, were never really sure where to start or how to get the most meat off without it turning into an ugly shredded pile. This great video has some quick tips to help us all out.

Happy Thanksgiving!

"Weekly Cheer" - Video of the Week

I love all of Mariah Careys Christmas songs, this video is so cheerful and up beat it makes we want to dance around the room while cleaning and using the broom as a microphone.

Enjoy your weekly cheer :)

Christmas Poinsettias

I got my Poinsettias today! I wasn't planning on getting them so soon but my sister and I had an itch for cookies so we bundled up and ran to the store. The poinsettas where so enticing I couldnt resist! This year I picked out pink ones; I've always loved the red ones because they are so Christmassy but the pinks looked so sweet I decided to switch it up.

Here is the story of how poinsettas became associated with the Christmas holiday:

"The plant's association with Christmas began in 16th century Mexico, where legend tells of a young girl who was too poor to provide a gift for the celebration of Jesus' birthday. The tale goes that the child was inspired by an angel to gather weeds from the roadside and place them in front of the church altar. Crimson "blossoms" sprouted from the weeds and became beautiful poinsettias. From the 17th century, Franciscan friars in Mexico included the plants in their Christmas celebrations. The star-shaped leaf pattern is said to symbolize the Star of Bethlehem, and the red color represents the blood sacrifice through the crucifixion of Jesus."

Do you buy Poinsettea's for your home every year?
How do you take care of them? They can be a little sensitive to watering, my father uses a few ice cubes every day to water them, he swears by it. I might try that this year.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Review

Hi everyone, I just got back from the newest Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn Part 1. As you all now know, I love Twilight! I have read all of the books at least 10 times and watch the movies religiously. So, as you can imagine I was pretty excited to see the new movie.
I had really high expectations for this movie because while I read the books I create images in my head of how different scenes would look, so the director had to exceed or at least match what I imagined.

For those of you who have not seen the Breaking Dawn movie and are planning on seeing it, this is going to be a spoiler, so come back and read this once you have seen the movie. :)

One crucial moment that would be a challenge to stay true to the book while keeping the movie PG-13, is the honeymoon scene. We've all seen it a hundred times in movies, but the demographic of this movie is young girls. So they had to do this scene tastefully but still relay all that happens in the books, days of ... honey mooning. That could be a challenge. I think they pulled this off very well, and made it sort of playful.

Another scene I was extremly anxious and curious to see was Bella's birthing scene. In the book this monumental moment is graphically explained. REMINDER: SPOILER ALERT! The birthing scene in the book is horrendous as Bella fights for her life as Renessme (Bella and Edwards daughter) is unintentionally crushing her from the inside out. This is not a normal birth, Bella's vampire/human baby has to be removed in a gruesome way which leads to Bella's death. But if you know Edward, you know he would never let his one true love die without a fight, he was prepared for the worst and is able to save her...kind of. This is such a monumental time in the book because this is both when Reneesme is born and Bella finally gets her wish to become a vampire.  I was so thrilled that watching this scene gave me goose bumps. Kristen is an amazing actress.

I was also very concerned about the following section of the book when
heart broken Jacob gets his first glimpse of Reneesme. Expecting the feel extreme hate and rip the little devil limb for limb, he unexpectedly imprints on her instead. If you are unfamiliar with imprinting, its a wolf thing. It is almost like love at first sight, but so much stronger. It is explained in the books as, the person you imprint on becomes the gravity holding you to the earth, your reason for living, unconditional love even if that love is not returned. Now I know what your thinking; A teenage boy falls in love with a new born baby girl? Well its not quite like that, he doesn't see her as his "love" at this point, he just feels this need to protect her and do everything he can to make her happy. So, for her quickly lived life, she will be the most loved and spoiled baby in the world. Once she grows up, he will continue to loyally be by her side even if all he can be is a best friend.

So, that is imprinting when you are a wolf. I know it sounds weird, but Stephanie Meyer explains it in a way that I cannot. She doesn't make it seem creepy at all, she makes it sound like a beautiful thing. Anyway, I was definitely curious to see how they portrayed this on screen as most things don't transfer as well on screen. Most of the things in Twilight are feelings and thoughts and it is extremely hard to get an audience, who hasn't read the books, to understand what is happening at a particular moment. That is why Twilight gets made fun of sometimes, it looks weird when you don't know exactly what the significance of the moment is.

I have to say, this had to be the hardest out of all the 4 books and 5 movies to make. There is so much graphic and weird moments in this one that it may come across as crazy to viewers unfamiliar with the books, but if they left out those details, it would upset the fans who did read the books. Bill Condon, the director, had his work cut out for him! But, in my twihard twilighter opinion, he did a good job all things considering.
Bill Condon definitely took a creative spin on things, which was both good and bad. I really like how he did some scenes but at times it looked a little corny. I think he dragged a few scenes on too long and didnt make more important moments long enough. I really dont want to go into too much detail because I dont want to ruin it for anyone. But overall I enjoyed it. It was the most chick-flicky movie out of the series but I knew this ahead of time, having read the books, so I was able to mentally prepare my boyfriend for the gushy-ness.

In a nut shell, by the time I got home I was ready to see it again. I am happy with the results of the movie, but I felt it was too "hollywood". One of the many things I love about the first movie was the low budget independent film feel. I feel like even in New Moon and Eclipse they were able to retain this feel. But in Breaking Dawn pt. 1, it felt very scifi without the deepness behind it that the other films had. Since it is Twilight, I love it, but I feel there are a few things that it was missing to give it that twilight feel. Like the Forks Washington woodsy feel, the small town feel, the mystery, and tangled emotions, and the characters where so different from the ones we know and love. I understand they are all growing up and maturing in the films and their lives have changed, but the whole feel of the movie has changed as well.

I'll let you make your own judgements, what did you think of it?
